"The Longest Five Minutes"

A young man standing in the middle of a project building with the I don’t know gesture

Karen sat in her car, scrolling through her phone, as she always did after a long day at work. The evening breeze gently blowing through her hair as she sat lost in thought.

However on the other side of the street, Karen's husband, Mike, was sitting in his car, staring intently at the screen on his phone. His eyes were glued to the security camera that was mounted above their garage. He watched as Karen sat there, her expression unreadable.

Mike's heart pounded in his chest. Was Karen cheating on him? Had he not been attentive enough? As he waited anxiously for her to get out of the car, he began to contemplate all the possible scenarios that could lead to his worst fears becoming a reality.

After what seemed like an eternity, Karen finally stepped out of the car, her phone still clutched in her hand. As she made her way towards the house, Mike exhaled as a sigh of relief. But he still couldn't shake the feeling that something was off.

He waited until Karen was inside before rushing over to her car. With his heart beating faster than ever, he began to going through her work bag on the backseat, desperate to find some sort of clue that would ease his worries.

And then he saw it. Tucked under the passenger seat, there was a small box, wrapped neatly in brown paper. Mike carefully unwrapped the package and let out a gasp as he saw what was inside.

It was a brand new pair of Ray Ban meta glasses the black ones he had been eyeing for months. Karen had known how much he wanted them and had bought them as a surprise.

Mike's eyes welled up with tears as he realized just how much he had misjudged his wife. All his fears and doubts had been for nothing, and he felt ashamed for ever having doubted the love and trust they shared.

As Karen watched her husband from the window, she too felt the tension lifting from her shoulders. She had been browsing online for the perfect gift for her husband, and she was glad to have found it. As she saw him emerge from the car, they both knew everything was going to be just fine.
