SMS, Emojis and WTF?

SMS- SMS, Emojis and WTF?

It was just another Wednesday morning when Tre picked up his phone. The ringing sound pierced the quiet room, bouncing off the pure white walls. He answered the call, a familiar voice on the other side wasn’t the voice he was expecting to hear.

Hello, Tre, a voice said softly. He recognized that voice all too well, it belonged to Joann. A crazy past that was once an affectionate bond. The frequency of arguments had risen to such an extent that they were fighting more often than before. Most of the fights were triggered by the pettiest reasoning; one time, they had an argument over what to eat for dinner.

Today's argument seemed different though. The two adults fought on the phone, their words seasoned with emotion and on the verge of hurt. Soon enough, they switched to text messages, because, it was getting a little heated up vocally. As they texted, Tre could feel the frustration coming through each word he read.

You just can't tell the truth, I know you talking to someone else Jack? Joann wrote.

What truth? Who the heck is Jack? he asked, puzzled.

His phone beeped again with Joann's text, I know you got somebody cause you haven’t call me in a few days. You must be talking to your baby mama? I'm unimportant to you, a mere 'nobody' in your life Jack?

Her message left Tre utterly baffled. Why would she assume she is unimportant? He pondered over his actions and the usage of the term 'Jack'. His response took a while to develop, as he thought about the best way to reassure Joann that she was far from a nobody to him.

Finally, she sent, Tre, 'Jack' is short for’Jackass’ when you make me mad. You use to have a pet name, like darling or sweetheart. But I know a 'nobody' to you. That I do know.

The ensuing silence felt eternal. It seemed like hours before the soft notification chime of his phone echoed in his room. Tre apprehensively looked at the screen. His face frowned in anger as he read Joann's response.

If you can't show me all the affection and attention I deserve Tre, I can't accept that. She ended it with, Maybe you need to be with her since you don’t want me.

Shaking his head, Tre quickly started typing. But just as he was about to send a text to salvage the situation, he got another text from Joann saying, ‘Jack’ with a sigh, Tre put down his phone. Thinking it might be time for to just let her go. Cause it seemed like she woke up with drama on her mind.  Well perhaps, the two of them needed some time apart. And if they were truly meant for each other, they'd find a way back. After all, sometimes, love meant letting go.
