Once upon a time, there was a man named Adam who was in a loving relationship with a woman named Erica. They had been together for three years, and he thought everything was going great until he noticed a pattern in her behavior towards him. She never wanted him to be happy and would put him down whenever he talked about his accomplishments.
For instance, one day he came home with a promotion from work, and when he shared the news with her, Erica responded with "Wow, that's great. Too bad it probably won't last long because you're not that talented." At first, he thought it was a joke, but she kept making these snide comments every time something good happened to him.
Adam didn't know how to address this behavior without coming across as sensitive or paranoid, but he couldn't keep it inside anymore. He took her out for a coffee and asked her what was wrong.
"Erica, lately I've been feeling like you're not happy when good things happen to me. I feel like you put me down every time I share my accomplishments. I want to know if something's wrong."
Erica stared at him blankly, not knowing what to say. Finally, she admitted, "Adam, I'm sorry. You're a great guy, but your accomplishments aren’t worth anything. Look how long it took for you to get it together and I have everything together, and I feel like I'm doing everything in this relationship. I guess it makes me feel better to put you down. But that’s what I get for choosing you as my man."
Adam appreciated her honesty, but it still hurt him that she didn't want him to be happy. He started to see her behavior as toxic, and he realized he deserved better.
One day, he came home and packed his bags. He knew it was time to move on from Erica. As he walked out of the door, Erica asked him for his half on the bills, also telling him that he would never amount to anything, that’s when he knew he couldn't take the emotional abuse any longer.
He left, and even though it was tough at first, Adam eventually found happiness again. He realized that he deserved someone who would be supportive of him and his accomplishments. And he found it in a new woman who encouraged him every step of the way.
The end.
A good read. Thanks for sharing.
