When the Mask Comes Off

When the Mask Comes Off

Tom had always thought he was lucky when he started dating Jenna. She was beautiful, smart, and witty - everything he wanted in a partner. They had been seeing each other for almost a month when Tom decided to introduce Jenna to his best friend, Alex. He had been excited to have the two people he cared about most in the same room together.

At first, everything was great. The three of them talked and laughed and had a few drinks. But as the night went on, Tom noticed that Jenna and Alex were getting a little too friendly. He tried to brush it off, thinking he was just being paranoid, but when he caught them sharing a secretive look across the room, his heart sank.

A week later, Tom received a text message from Jenna saying that she needed to talk to him. She came over to his apartment, and before Tom could even ask her what was wrong, Jenna blurted out that she was seeing someone else. Tom was shocked it felt like his heart stopped. "Who?" he asked.

Jenna looked down at her feet before finally saying, "It's Alex. I'm sorry, Tom. I didn't mean for things to end up like this." Tom was too shocked to say anything. The woman he had fallen for had been dating his best friend the whole time. Jenna tried to explain that it wasn't something she had planned, that she had fallen in love with Alex accidentally, but Tom wasn't listening anymore.

He couldn't believe that the two people he trusted most in the world could betray him like this. Jenna tried to leave, but Tom wasn't finished. "Why did you even date me then?" he asked, in a mean tone.

Jenna looked up at him, tears in her eyes, and said the words that would haunt Tom forever. "I just wanted to see what it would be like to date you, Tom. Why do i need you when I have your best friend."

And with that, Jenna left Tom standing alone in his apartment, wondering how he could have been so blind.
