Part: 4 “Whispers In The Wind”

Maintenance man

It was just another typical Monday morning at the hotel where Henry had been working as a maintenance man for the past year. As he punched his time card to start his shift, something didn't seem quite right.

"Excuse me, Miss," he said, approaching the receptionist. "There seems to be an issue with my time card. I'm missing a couple of hours."

The receptionist's face tightened, and she excused herself to get the hotel owner, Mr. Jenkins. Henry knew he had a contentious history with the owner, but he was confident that he had a good case. After all, he knew that he had worked all the hours he had been scheduled.

Jenkins sauntered over, his face expressionless. "What's the issue here, Henry?" he asked flatly.

"I think there's been an error with my time card," Henry said, holding it out for the owner to inspect.

Jenkins barely glanced at the time card before tossing it back at Henry. "That's impossible. I'm certain our system is foolproof."

"But I know for a fact that I worked those hours. You can roll them cameras back or ask any of my colleagues," Henry persisted.

Jenkins rolled his eyes. "Look, Henry, we have no reason to doubt our system. We've never had any problems before. You can either accept the hours on your card or leave. I don't have time for this."

Feeling frustrated and dejected, Henry knew he had only one choice. He grabbed his tools and set out to tackle the maintenance work he had been assigned for the day. He could barely focus on his tasks, his mind racing with anger and disbelief.

However, as he went about his duties, Henry couldn't shake the nagging feeling that something wasn't right. As the day wore on, he observed several more discrepancies in the hotel's systems and operations. Loose tiles in the bathroom, leaky faucets, frayed electrical cords - he had never seen the hotel so poorly maintained.

It dawned on him then - maybe the error with his time card was intentional, a ploy by the hotel's owner to avoid paying overtime and making budget cuts wherever possible.

With newfound determination, Henry began meticulously documenting the maintenance problems he discovered throughout the hotel. Armed with this evidence, he approached the hotel owner again and this time, Jenkins couldn't ignore him.

Henry's vigilance and persistence led to a long overdue overhaul of the hotel's systems and operations. The guests were happier, the staff was more efficient, and the hotel's reputation soared. Henry earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues, the hotel's guests, and even the previously hard-headed Jenkins.

As for Henry's missing hours, Jenkins still doesn’t see where Henry lost hours, but instead Jenkins wrote Henry up for being disrespectful towards his boss. giving Henry didn’t sign the waiver paper. Henry emerged victorious from his colleagues , with his hard work and dedication recognized by coworkers and hotel guests who appreciated his work.
