Friday in Disarray

Jeff woke up groggily on a typical Friday morning, an average morning, with average sunshine peeping through his threadbare curtain and an average sense of impending mundanity that only comes from his long years working as a maintenance man. Slipping into his worn-out work uniform, he had no idea that this particular Friday was going to be anything but ordinary.

With his familiar keys clanking by his side, Jeff pulled into the grand driveway of the eminent Royale Hotel. Instead of the routine line-up of glossy cars and nosey tourists, the building was surrounded by an ominous assembly of police vehicles, their sirens illuminating the early morning scene. Nervously he asked an officer, who had blocked off the entrance, what had happened.

One of the guests got robbed, the cop shared, with an intriguing glint in his eye, This case is more sophisticated than what we normally encounter. It’s going to be a long day.

Navigating through a beehive of detectives and disgruntled guests, Jeff made his way towards the reception desk, where his best friend and receptionist at the hotel, Terry, filled him in on the sordid details.

It was all staged by a trio. The ringleader is a seductress who managed to seduce one of our guest Mr. Randall while two men dressed like women robbed his room. Terry relayed the facts while doing his best to deal with agitated customers. The mention of the woman reminded Jeff of a mysterious and elegant lady who he had noticed loitering near Mr. Randall’s room during his routine maintenance checks.

The three of them ran off, and we are going through every detail and every corner for any clues, Terry ended with a heavy sigh.

Inspired to aid in the situation, Jeff turned to what he did best - knowing the hotel’s like no one else. Going to the room, now swarming with officers, Jeff thought about the mysterious lady and the two burly men she was often seen with. Puzzling over it, he began helping out in any way he could, using his in-depth knowledge of the hotel to point out hidden spaces or areas they could’ve potentially used.

His observations became pivotal when he pointed out a rarely used, concealed access to the ventilation system near Mr. Randall’s room. Lo and behold, there lay stashed, his passport and the stolen jewelry, no doubt temporarily hidden during the thieves' hasty retreat.

As the clock struck midday, Jeff found himself surrounded by thankful detectives and awed hotel staff. The mysterious lady and her companions were apprehended by nightfall, and Jeff's work day had been anything but mundane. Instead, he had thwarted a grand robbery and saved the day.

It was then that Jeff learned a truth more solid than any of his sturdy buildings; never underestimate an average day, for it may carry the seeds of an extraordinary event. From that day onwards, Jeff welcomed every average morning with an open heart and mind, never quite knowing what extraordinary circumstances it may hold.
