Flashing Illuminations: The Midnight Tale

Man, earth, moon,-Flashing Illuminations: The Midnight Tale

Edward was a middle-aged man, a conventional and comfort loving fellow with simple tastes in life. His night ritual always involved some solitary moments of peace on his balcony overlooking the quiet little town of Marjory Hills.

One particularly summer night, Edward sat on his comfortable rocking chair, clutching his ceramic mug of his favorite liquor. As his mind meandered between past and present, his gaze fixated on this glow ball - the moon. He had always had a fascination with the cosmos, stargazing had been his favorite pastime since childhood. Tonight, though, there was something unusual about the moon.

It was a typical summer evening; crickets harmonized the silence of the night. Suddenly, Edward noticed the moon start to move unusually fast across the night sky, leaving a streak of moonlight in its wake. At first, he thought it might have been the gentle effect of what he was drinking playing with his perception. But his eyes weren't playing tricks on him. Indeed, the moon was rapidly moving, as if pulled by an unseen force.

Following it, was an intensely bright flashing light, scorching its path across the vast expanse of the sky. Edward’s heart raced, moving his hands feeling both pockets for his phone. It was like nothing he'd ever seen before; it was spectacular, baffling, terrifying. He forgot to breathe for a few seconds as he continued to observe the event with wide eyes.

Was this the beginning of an apocalypse? A shooting star that he had always longed to see? Or maybe what he always thought about the moon was true?

Roused by curiosity, Edward immediately fetched his cellphone. He directed them towards the inexplicably flashing light in the hope to capture the unknown. As he zoomed in to get a closer view, he was left dumbstruck. He witnessed something that was maybe for the government, something that resembled a hot air balloon, resembling the ones he'd read about in his numerous science fiction novels.

Unsure if he should panic or marvel at the sight, he chose to take a picture of the big glowing ball in the sky with the flashing satellite following it. Being an introvert and a believer of most conspiracy theorists, Edward thought, this is a monumental discovery. After what felt like hours, the moon and the flashing light settled into their ordinary pace.

Just like that, the incident ceased to be, leaving Edward all alone with his heart throbbing like a jackhammer. The big glowing ball in the sky- the moon spectacle was imprinted vividly in his memory, adding a unique flavor to his otherwise ordinary life.

While many wouldn't believe Edward's experience that night, he took solace in his own discovery. As dawn approached, he realized he was part of a cosmic tale that he alone witnessed, turning an average man into the silent guardian of an unspoken celestial secret. Every night thereafter, he gazed at the stars with anticipation, reminiscing that bizarre yet exciting night when the moon raced across the sky trailed by a flashing light.
