Sleepily Chasing Appliances

Refrigerator-Sleepily Chasing Appliances

This story takes place in the early morning hours on a Tuesday morning. You may know or not know the refrigerator joke but it’s a classic from when we were growing up in the mid 90’s. So if you don’t know about this joke you are about to find out like our buddy Mitch.

Mitch, our friend who can hardly function without his cigarette and a cup of morning joe, he was dragged from the edges of dreamland by a constant ringing of his cellphone.

Squinting his eyes at the clock that informed him it was way too early in the morning for his phone to be ringing unless it’s an emergency, Mitch, not completely awake, picked up the call. The voice on the other side of the line introduced itself as Chad from Chads Refrigeration. Quick question, Chad asked, waking Mitch up a bit more.

Curious and partially convinced that he may indeed have a serious refrigerator situation that required his immediate attention, Mitch replied with a yes. This is where it gets funny - and why we probably should not answer phone calls from numbers that you don’t know before 5:30 in the morning!

Chad asked Mitch the question regarding his refrigerator- yes sir, Is your refrigerator running? Mitch sits up on side of the bed and answers, yes, my refrigerator is working. But what came next left Mitch baffled and completely dumbfounded.

WELL YOU BETTER GO CATCH IT! Chad replied before he hung up.

Now, I about to give you a vivid image of a half-awake Mitch scrambling towards his kitchen, blindly believing he had an important task ahead of him - catching his refrigerator, which had seemingly developed legs overnight and decided to go for a jog. Just as the silliness of the situation started to sink in, it hit Mitch - he was a victim of a prank call.

Once the adrenaline wore off and the fog of sleepiness dissipated, all Mitch could do was shake his head, smile at his gullibility, and admit he’d been pranked. That, my friends, is why you shouldn't answer early morning calls until you've had that vital first cup of coffee and a cigarette in Mitch case.

Remember folks, life isn’t always so serious – sometimes, you have to find the humor, even when it’s your half-asleep self providing the comedy!
