 2 Or More

8 year old boy at the dinner table with his mom and dad

On the drive home, Alba gripped the steering wheel tightly. "Tommy, sweetheart," she began carefully, "what happened today... your father doesn't need to know about any of it."

Tommy turned to her with the same calculating look he'd given Marcus and the priest at his earlier. "PS5," he said simply.

Alba's mouth opened, then closed without a word. Her son was proving to be quite the negotiator.

That evening at dinner, John asked about everyone's day. Tommy pushed his peas around his plate with a thoughtful expression.

"You know, Dad," he said casually, "two in one day is actually a record."

Alba spits out her wine.

"What's that, little man?" John asked, looking up from cutting the pot roast.

"Yes, Tommy, yes!" Alba cut in quickly, her voice an octave too high. "Two... two homework assignments completed in one day. Isn't that wonderful, dear? Tommy's becoming such a dedicated student!"

Tommy took a slow sip of his milk, his eyes twinkling. It seemed the teddy bear business was just the beginning of his white collar career.
