Unspoken 2

Man eyes wide open looking at his phone

Garrett's hit send before his brain could stop it. "WYD?"

Beth's response was quick: "laying across the bed watching tv" followed by "wyd?"

Garrett's mind went places it shouldn't. Places where it turned into something else. He could picture her there, comfortable, maybe in those tight grey sweats she wore that looked better than any dress. His apartment suddenly felt too warm.

"Damn" was all he could manage to text.

"Lol what?" Her response text.

Garrett's heart hammered as he typed, "I'm just picturing all that sexiness while you lying across the bed." As soon as he hit send, his stomach dropped. Had he thought he had crossed the line? Were they really doing this?

The three dots appeared, disappeared, appeared again. Then his phone buzzed. A picture. Beth lying across her bed, looking at the camera with eyes that held promises and threats in equal measure. Garrett's eyes went wide, his phone almost slip out his with excitement.

A slow smile spread across Garrett's face as he stared at the picture, his heart racing like he'd just sprinted up ten flights of stairs. Beth was laying there in a way that left just enough to the imagination, but showed more than she'd ever shared before. The look in her eyes held something dangerous, like a beautiful storm on the horizon.

He zoomed in on her face, studying the slight curve of her lips, the knowing look in her eyes. All those times they'd hung out as "just friends" suddenly felt like practice runs for whatever was about to happen next. But something in the back of his mind whispered caution – he'd knew about Beth's intensity when it came to love.

His eyes were focused on his phone screen, mind racing with possibilities. This wasn't just any woman sending him a flirty picture – this was Beth. The same Beth who'd stayed up all night talking him to him until they fall asleep on the phone and who knew exactly how he liked his coffee, who could read his actions better than anyone else. One wrong move and he could lose not just a potential lover, but one of his closest friends.

But damn, that picture...
