When You Thought You Weren’t Part 3 | The Collision

Two black women standing over a black man laying on the ground

Kurt backed up a step, hands up like he was trying to calm down a wild animal.

Kurt: “Whoa, whoa Whoa Stacy, baby, listen—”

Stacy: “Don’t ‘baby’ me!” (her finger in his face). “You got me fucked got me out here looking stupid! Three months, Kurt! THREE MONTHS! And this whole time I’m the side bitch I mean piece?!”

Kurt: “It’s not what you think—”

Stacy: “Then WHAT IS IT?! Tell me right now, Kurt, ’cause I swear if you lie to me one more time—”

His phone rang again.

One.

They both looked at it.

Stacy snatched the phone out of his hand before he could react.

“Stacy, don’t—”

She answered it.

Stacy: “Hello?”

There was a pause on the other end. Then a woman’s voice, confused and annoyed.

Unknown woman: “Um… who is this?”

Stacy: “Nah, who is this?”

Unknown woman: “I’m calling for Kurt. Where’s Kurt?”

Stacy’s eyes locked on him. He looked like he wanted to disappear into the wall.

Stacy: “Oh, Kurt?  Yeah, he right here. Hold on. Kurt, baby, your homeboy wanna talk to you.”

She put the phone on speaker and held it up between them.

Kurt didn’t move.

Unknown woman: “Kurt? Baby, what’s going on? Who is that?”

Stacy’s eyes widen and mouth fell open.

Stacy: “Baby?”
