When You Thought You Weren’t Part 6 | Caught in a Lie

Amara pulled out her phone. 


Amara: “A’ight. Well, if that’s what happened, we calling the police.”

Kurt’s eyes went wide. 


Kurt: What? Nah, baby we don’t gotta do all that—


Amara: “Why not? If somebody jumped you and didn’t pay you, we filing a report. Unless…“Unless you lying.”


Kurt opened his mouth, but nothing came out.


Amara: That’s what I thought. So who was she, Kurt? And don’t lie to me again, because I will find out.


Kurt sat up slowly, holding his hip. He looked at her, at the anger and hurt in her eyes, and for the first time all night, he didn’t have a lie ready.


Before he could say anything, Amara’s phone buzzed. She looked down at it her eyes went wide, then her jaw clenched so tight Kurt thought she might crack a tooth.


Kurt: “What?” What is it?


Amara turned the phone around, showing him the screen.


It was a text. From a number he didn’t recognize. But the message was clear:


“Ask him about Keisha. And Stacy. And how many more of us there are.”


Attached was a picture. Of him. In the hotel lobby. With Stacy.


Kurt’s heart stopped.


Amara was quiet. Deadly quiet. 


Amara: “So… you wanna try that housekeeper story again?”
