The Audacity

Here another one from Wellington’s Short Story Collection a short story about a man and woman that had an on-and-off relationship with each other over the years, and decided to see each other and after they reconnected things got twisted.

Man sticking out his tongue woman point, The Audacity

Keith couldn't believe the audacity of Lena when she said "I have to give her some money". They hadn't seen each other in 15 years, not since that hot summer night when things ended for good between them.

He had just skimmed past her picture post on Facebook, looking as beautiful as ever with the piercing in one of her eye brows and short black hair. Despite all the history and baggage, Keith felt his heart skip a beat when their eyes met again.

They stayed across the street from each other. As teenagers, the flirtatious stares and secret kisses when nobody looking led to Lena sneaking across the street when everybody asleep. Which also led to an intense physical relationship that lasted years. It was reckless, passionate, the type of love struck only in youth.

But it was also tumultuous and draining. The constant heated arguments, jealous rages, and painful breakups took their toll. That final night marked the end when harsh words turned to thrown objects, slammed doors, breaking glass and vows to never see each other again.

Until today, when Keith went over to her apartment.  Lena gave him that same  smile that used to make him melt. She batted her eyes and said in that sweet voice, "Hey stranger, fat boy looking my daddy walking up in here".

The old feelings rushed back, they Netflix and chilled until the next morning. But when arrived then Samantha casually looked at Keith and mentioning money "give her some cash".

Keith was stunned. After 15 years of zero contact, she has the audacity to ask him for money? All those memories of hot teenage lovemaking came rushing back, along with the screaming fights, hurled insults, and shattered hearts.

"Are you crazy?" he looked at her. "We haven't seen each other in 15 years and you gone tell me to give you some money? Damn you didn’t even give me time to asked if  you were good cause I haven’t seen you in forever. When did we start this “I got to give you money” what you my woman I didn’t get that memo? Lena?"

She opened her mouth to respond, but Keith had already packed his bag and exited out her apartment. He should have known the past would never stay buried when it came to Lena. The old neighbor people say they were made for each other.
