A Midnight To Remember 3

 After The Letter

The day was going slower than usual. Alissa checked her phone every five minutes, re-reading his message, smiling at the way he can put words together. Luke had finally texted backed—"Same time same spot tonight?"—a big smile came across Alissa face.

Man an woman sitting in a car smil

Alissa had spent almost an hour getting ready. This was different.

Luke car was is his driveway at the usual time, that familiar black shining under the streetlights. But when Alissa slid into the passenger seat, the air between had suddenly changed, electric. No music playing this time. No Budweiser waiting. Just them two, sneaking looking at each other trying not to be noticed like teenagers.

"What’s up," Luke said, his voice softer than usual.

"Hey," Alissa responded, unable to hold back her smile.

The sat there in silence for what felt like forever, neither of them didn’t know quite what to say. Alissa letter had changed things. Luke response to the letter had changed things. But the kiss they shared had changed everything.

Luke: "So..."

Alissa: "So…"

When she looked up at Luke, he was staring at her with such intensity that it looked like it took her breath away. Without a word, Luke was looking Alissa in her eyes and leaned across the center console, his hand gently cuffing her face. Their lips touched again, and that same electric current flowed through their body, maybe even stronger than before.

As they were kissing, Alissa mind was racing filled with questions. Could this work? Could we be more than late-night calls and driveway meetups? What would it mean to actually be together, to let this thing between us grow into something real?

She could feel him thinking too, his kiss both passionate and hesitant, like he was also wondering if we were crossing a point of no return.

When they finally pulled apart, looking into each other eyes, looking for answers to questions they both couldn't bring themselves to ask.

"What I said in response to your letter. I meant all of it." Luke said.

Alissa heart started beating fast in her chest.

"I know," Alissa whispered back. "I meant everything I wrote in that letter too."

They both sat there, foreheads still touching, with a kiss every other minute.

"So what now?" Luke asked.

Alissa and Luke both knew that whatever happens next, they couldn't go back to what they were before. That magical kiss had started something neither of them had been looking for but now couldn't imagine walking away from.

"I don't know," I admitted. "But I want to find out." Alissa responded.
