Ohh You Can’t Answer
Stacy: “Baby?!” Who the hell is that, Kurt?!”
Kurt rubbed his hand down his face, looking everywhere but at her.
Kurt: “Aww, nobody important.
Stacy: “Nobody important? NOBODY IMPORTANT?!” What you mean nobody important? She calling you back to back! She just called you ‘baby’! How is that nobody important?!”
Kurt just stood there, mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water. No words. No explanation. Nothing.
Stacy: “Say something!” Talking all that noise a second ago, my cat don’t got your tongue so Speak, Kurt! Tell me who the f*ck that is!”
Silence.
Finally, he let out a breath and grabbed his keys off the dresser.
Kurt: “Come on so I can take you home.”
Stacy stepped back like he had slapped her.
Stacy: “Ohh, now you—”
Ring ring.
Kurt’s phone lit up again in her hand.
Unknown Number.
They both stared at it.
Stacy looked from the phone to Kurt.
Stacy: “You gotta be f*cking kidding me.”
Kurt reached for the phone, but Stacy hit a matrix move and said:
Stacy: “You gotta quicker than that. Nah, nah. You don’t get to touch this. Not after what just happened.” So who this now, Kurt? Huh? This ‘Two’? ‘Three’? How many of us is there?!”
Nick: “Stacy, give me my damn phone—”
Stacy: “Who you talking to answer my question. “How many Kurt?!”
Kurt’: “It’s not like that—”
Stacy: “Then what is it like?! “Because from where I’m standing, I’m ‘Old Snapper’ saved under ‘Side Piece,’ some btch named ‘One’ is calling you ‘baby,’ and now you got ‘Unknown Number’ blowing yo shit up! So please, Kurt, please tell me what the fck it’s like!”
The phone kept ringing. Over and over. Whoever it was, they weren’t giving up.
Kurt: “Just… give me the damn phone, Stacy.”
Stacy: “Or what? What you gonna do, Kurt? You gonna take it from me? Huh? You gonna put your hands on me over a phone?”
Kurt: “I’m not—”and I’m not doing this with you right now.”
Stacy: “You already did it!” You did this! You played me! You had me thinking we was good, thinking I was your girl, and the whole time I’m just some chick on the side!”
The phone stopped ringing.
Then immediately started again.
Unknown Number.
Stacy held her thumb over the answer button. She looked at Kurt one more time, giving him a chance.
Stacy: “Tell me the truth right now, or I’m answering this.”
Kurt’s eyes flickered with Guilt.
Kurt: “Stacy, don’t.”
Stacy: “Tell me the truth!”
He didn’t say anything.
Stacy pressed answer and put it on speaker.
