The Maintenance Man Chronicles: Seven Stories. Seven Maintenance Men. One Unforgettable 9 to 5.
What happens when the man holding the hotel together starts to fall apart? When the tools go missing, the boss disrespects the wrong employee, or the restroom becomes the most chaotic room in the building? Wellington 3 Publishing's newest urban fiction series answers all of that — and then some.
The Maintenance Man Chronicles is a seven-part short story series following seven different maintenance men through the raw, unscripted, and often hilarious reality of hotel life. Each story is its own world. Each man is his own character. And every single one of them has a moment that will leave you shaking your head, crying laughing, or nodding because you've been there.
What's Inside the Series
Here's a look at all seven stories in the collection:
- Part 1 — Caffeine in the Drunken Haze: Jeremiah tears the entire hotel apart searching for his beloved silver coffee cup. He questioned staff, confronted a renovation crew, and nearly came to blows — all while the cup sat safely in his coat pocket the whole time.
- Part 2 — Maintenance In The Restroom: Robert was supposed to clean the men's restroom. He never got around to it. When Cecilia walked in to do her job, she discovered Robert sprinting between stalls — naked as the day he was born. The whole hotel found out by end of shift.
- Part 3 — Elevator Pitch: Mr. Troy had been sipping on the job for years. He finally crossed the line in an elevator with the hotel manager — and walked out into the parking lot fired, bottle in hand, laughing into the setting sun like he'd won.
- Part 4 — 2 Drill To Be True: Bernard Tubbs showed up to his first day at Meadowlane Hotel with two power drills and a system nobody had ever seen before. One drill to start the screw. One drill to finish it. Nobody could argue with the closet rod — it went up straight and strong.
- Part 5 — Whispers in the Wind: Henry wasn't going to let a disrespectful boss talk down to him. Not on the second floor. Not on the third floor. Not thirty minutes later on the first floor. He said what he said — every time — and the whole hotel staff was watching.
- Part 6 — Employee Breakdown: Henry returns. This time the boss crosses a line that affects Henry's coins. Henry documented every maintenance problem in the hotel, brought the evidence, forced a full overhaul — and still got written up for going around the chain of command. IYKYK.
- Part 7 — IYKYK (If You Know You Know): Missing hours on the time card. A hotel owner who won't look at the evidence. Henry pushed back the right way and still caught a write-up for it. The guests loved him. The staff respected him. Jenkins wrote him up anyway. If you know, you know.
Why This Series Hits Different
These aren't stories about management. They aren't told from the penthouse suite or the front desk. This series lives in the maintenance shop, the service elevator, the back hallway nobody books a photo shoot in. It's the side of the hotel that makes everything else run — and the people doing that work rarely get their own story told.
Urban fiction meets workplace comedy meets real talk. Every character in this series is somebody you've worked with, been related to, or been yourself on a bad Thursday.
