The Hustle
Stacy was checking her phone as a new text message came through. She unlocked her screen, curious about who might be texting her this late at night.
"I need $20," the message read, from an unknown number.
Confused, Stacy replied, "Who is this?"
The response was fast came with a sense of entitlement that made Stacy raise an eyebrow. "Really? You said that I can text you anytime I needed something? And I need $20 you know the cash app? You can send it now?"
Stacy hesitated, she texted back, "I think...", but before she could finish her text, another message popped up.
"What’s taking you so long? Did you send the $20?"
The pushy nature of the texts started to irritate Stacy. She realized this person was either confused or, worse, trying to scam her. Either way, she'd had enough of the charade.
With a mix of annoyance and amusement, Stacy fired back, "Wrong number fool!"
There was a brief pause before a reply appeared: "sorry!"
Stacy shook her head, chuckling at the audacity of the unknown texter. She couldn't help but wonder how often this tactic worked on unsuspecting individuals. As she blocked the number, she made a mental note to warn her friends about this new twist on the old "friend in need" scam.
Settling back into her evening routine, Stacy found herself grateful for her natural skepticism. It had saved her $20 and provided an amusing anecdote to share at tomorrow's office lunch.
